The BMW iX is setting out on a new electric adventure with the arrival of the new iX xDrive45 M Sport variant. This refreshed model brings a wide-ranging suite of enhancements – from a more striking exterior presence to boosted range and performance.
The new BMW iX xDrive45 M Sport presents a captivating expression of dynamism right up front with
the redesigned BMW kidney grille – now featuring fine filigree frame set against a structure of vertical and diagonal lines as well as contour lighting from the BMW Iconic Glow package. Power output has gone up from 240 kW / 326 hp in the previous iX xDrive40 model to 300 kW / 408 hp here, while torque has risen from 630 Nm to 700. This ultimately gives the new iX a much more responsive feeling on the road with 0-100 km/h acceleration shortened to just 5.1 seconds. Battery capacity has also gone up from 76.6 kWh to 100.4 kWh, raising maximum range on the WLTP standard from 425 to 602 kilometres.
On the road the new BMW iX xDrive45 M Sport delivers a satisfying blend of precision and comfort. Newly added Integral Active Steering enables steering capability on the rear wheel, significantly improving manoeuvrability at lower speeds as well as stability at high speeds. Adaptive 2-axle air suspension provides adjustable ride height based on the selected driving mode, ensuring supreme smoothness and comfort atop the 21-inch M aero wheels. Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Plus make every journey a breeze with the inclusion of Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, front collision warning with brake intervention, and more. With its distinctive design and increased interior space, this long-wheelbase and all-electric take on the popular BMW X1 features extended dimensions with a total length of 4,616 mm and an elongated 2,802 mm wheelbase – 116 mm longer than the standard X1 and with a 110 mm extended wheelbase. Combined with the typically bold stance of an SAV, the new BMW iX1 eDrive20L M Sport cuts an even more impressive figure on the road compared to its predecessor, with the updated three-dimensional closed kidney grille up front flanked by adaptive LED headlights that extend well into the vehicle’s sides. Crisply sculpted surfaces add a muscular and sporty feel that is further elevated with the M Sport exterior trim, which includes the elegant gleam of high-gloss Shadowline on both sides to go with aluminium satinated roof rails and 19-inch M light alloy wheels in Double-spoke Bicolour design.
As expected, the extended wheelbase means greater comfort on the inside. The chassis of the new BMW R 1300 RT has been completely redesigned. The centrepiece is the new sheet metal main frame made of steel – which is both more compact and stiffer than prior RT models. In combination with a similarly more compact drive unit, the new chassis design concentrates mass towards the bike’s overall centre of gravity to achieve more precise and stable handling. The adjustable side trim allows the rider to regulate airflow for comfortable ventilation or maximum protection from the wind and weather, while cylinder trim panels keep your shoes and ankles protected from water even in the rain.
The handlebars, footrests and seat of the new BMW R 1300 RT have all been optimised and positioned to suit the rider’s ergonomics. The rider is positioned further forward than on previous RT models, enabling the front end to respond more quickly to every control. This results in more agility at high speeds, while maintaining the same precision and smoothness for relaxed riding. As for the luggage space, two 27-litre storage cases are included as standard. Each case can be expanded to a maximum capacity of 33 inches, significantly expanding the bike’s interior space. Two top cases are also included, with capacities of 39 and 54 litres, while the special edition Option 719 Camargue also comes standard with a large top case with heated backrests.
The newly designed body, complete with all these features, is mounted on a suspension system that utilizes Dynamic Chassis Adaption (DCA) technology, which electronically adjusts the spring and suspension stiffness. It also offers two different modes of lean angle. Standard mode keeps the vehicle’s neck parallel to the road surface for a smooth and stable ride. Second mode raises the vehicle’s rear end higher than the front end, with stiffer springs and suspension, resulting in a more precise and responsive handling experience.
The front of the new BMW R 1300 RT features LED headlights that provide bright lighting for enhanced safety on every route. The Headlight Pro package, which comes as standard equipment for the Thai market, adds the ability to adjust the headlight angle to tilt down or up according to the angle of the vehicle’s body. This helps the headlight maintain the maximum illumination distance in every riding situation, whether accelerating, decelerating, or adjusting the vehicle’s angle via the DCA suspension system.
In addition to the redesigned bodywork, the BMW R 1300 RT is powered by a newly developed engine. This 1,300cc, four-stroke, twin-cylinder boxer engine is the most powerful boxer engine in the BMW lineup, producing a maximum output of 107 kW / 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and a peak torque of 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and a wet clutch with integrated rear wheel lockup protection. Ease of use is also ensured by the standard Shift Assistant Pro, which enables clutchless gear changes. The Option 719 Camargue further enhances this convenience with the Automatic Shift Assistant (ASA), which automatically controls both the clutch and transmission at every stage.
The new BMW R 1300 RT comes standard with the Riding Modes Pro package, offering five riding modes. These include “Rain” and “Road” modes that adapt the bike to the road and weather conditions; “Eco” mode, which uses BMW ShiftCam technology to optimize engine performance for maximum range on a single tank of fuel; and “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” modes, designed to work in conjunction with the Dynamic Chassis Adaption (DCA) suspension, which adjusts the bike’s ride height, spring stiffness, and suspension settings for maximum riding agility.
The new BMW R 1300 RT ensures smooth and safe riding on the road with a comprehensive range of riding assistance systems, including Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with brake assist, Active Cruise Control (ACC) that can set a distance from the car in front, Front Collision Warning (FCW), and Side View Assist (SVA) that uses radar to detect obstacles both in front and behind the vehicle. All of these functions, along with navigation and connectivity with smartphones and other devices, can be accessed via a 10.25-inch TFT screen.
The new BMW R 1300 RT comes with an Audio System that provides a pleasant sound experience throughout the journey with integrated speakers and supports connection to the rider’s communication device. The special model Option 719 Camargue takes the entertainment experience to the next level with the Audio Pro package.
