The new BMW R 18 Roctane comes with a sturdy look, modern technology, and authentic materials in a custom bagger style.
The model borrows a distinctive styling cue from previous model,
the BMW R 5, where the iconic air-oil cooled boxer motor is the epicentre of the purist, streamlined design.
The model’s distinctiveness is enhanced by the use of cutting-edge LED lighting technology that has been classically interpreted. It features the familiar two-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine, known as the ‘big boxer,’ with a capacity of 1,802 cc. This powerful engine can generate an output of 67 kW (91 hp) at 4,750 rpm, with a torque of 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm, and it supports regular fuel (octane 95). In addition to its impressive motor performance, the model can also reach a maximum speed of over 180 km/h while producing a compelling sound on the road.
The model is equipped with claw-shifted six-gear transmission in a separate gearbox housing and a single-disc dry clutch. Outstanding manufacturing quality and meticulous attention to detail are also evident in less obvious features such as the welded joints between the steel tubes and the cast or forged parts. Like the legendary BMW R 5, the rear swingarm – sporting a comparable design – surrounds the rear axle transmission in authentic style by means of bolted connections. Emphasising its classic heritage, the new BMW R 18 Roctane boasts metal body parts,
such as the fuel tank, front and rear wheel covers and headlight housing,
exuding a sense of timeless elegance.
The suspension elements of the new BMW R 18 Roctane deliberately features a telescopic fork and a directly-mounted central suspension strut with travel-dependent damping and adjustable spring preload to maintain its classic elements and to ensure superior wheel control and attractive suspension comfort. The suspension travel is 120 mm at the front and 90 mm at the rear. The new BMW R 18 Roctane braking system consists of a twin disc brake at the front and a single disc brake at the rear in conjunction with four-piston fixed callipers. The larger 21-inch front wheel, combined with the 18-inch rear wheel give the model a supremely stylish appearance.
The new BMW R 18 Roctane also features three riding modes: ‘Rain’, ‘Roll’ and ‘Rock’ – as standard, which is uncommon in this segment. The standard equipment also includes ASC (Automatic Stability Control), which ensures a high level of riding safety. In addition, a reverse gear helps the vehicle move backward comfortably, and the Hill Start Control function
makes starting on an incline easy. Cruise control helps riders maintain a constant speed on a straight road, while heated grips keep the rider’s hands warm on cold days. Keyless Ride adds a modern touch to the new BMW R 18 Roctane, while the daytime running light and adaptive headlight with Headlight Pro provide better illumination of the road. Rider safety is enhanced on every road with a lockable filler cap and RDC (tyre pressure control).
The new BMW R 18 Roctane revives the tradition of past eras in custom bagger style, combining state-of-the-art technology with contemporary design. The ‘BERLIN BUILT’ lettering on the dial is a reference to the bike’s origin. The vehicle features well-balanced ergonomics and a comfortable footrest position. It allows a relaxed and active riding position for optimal control of the motorcycle.
The high, black-coated handlebars ensure an upright and relaxed riding position. The model features a dual-level seat that tapers slimly towards the rear, along with rear passenger straps. Additionally, it is equipped with running boards that work in conjunction with a gearshift paddle. The new BMW R 18 Roctane is ideally suitable for laid-back cruising and touring, thanks to the pannier cases on the bike, which offer 27 litres of luggage space each.
The new BMW R 18 Roctane features a Mineral Grey Metallic Matte colour and boasts a stunning appearance with an attractive paintwork finish.
